What we’re about
Welcome. This group is for anyone interested in getting out in nature to experience the bird life of South-East QLD. We accept all ages and skill levels, from beginner to expert.
This meetup is free. If you would like (totally optional) to contribute towards the organiser fees, you can buy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BirdsSEQMeetup

See all- Hinterland Regional Park - Bird WalkHinterland Regional Park, Mudgeeraba
This 62-hectare park offers a collection of different environment types and is arguably one of the best bird watching sites on the Gold Coast. This site offers bush birds, water birds and raptors. I'm hoping we'll get to see the flock of Glossy Black Cockatoos that occasionally visit this reserve.
The circuit is unsealed but reasonably flat. In one section we will be crossing an in-use cattle grazing paddock. The public are authorised to use this crossing and the cows are usually not near the track. If you feel uncomfortable, we will split the group in two to provide an alternate route.
At the end of the walk, we’ll have a BYO morning tea and go through the bird list.
There are public toilets on-site at the meeting point.
This event is free. A gold coin donation is appreciated (but not mandatory) to cover the organiser fees. Alternatively, you can buy me a coffee at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BirdsSEQMeetup
Things to Bring:
- Binoculars, or camera with telephoto lens
- Enclosed shoes
- Hat, Sunscreen
- Snacks for morning tea
- Mosquito repellent (if you are prone to being attacked)

Directions:
⚠️Warning for GPS/phone users: some GPS applications will try to navigate you to the dead-centre of the park, or the closest road, which is not the entrance. Before setting out, please make sure you are entering via the entrance off Hardys Rd and Bertana Dr, Mudgeeraba.🙋The road in the reserve is a large loop with parking along the road. We will be meeting at the entrance in front of the toilets.

Distance: 4.0km - Tinchi Tamba Wetlands – Bird WalkDeep Water Bend Reserve, Bald Hills
Tinchi Tamba contains mangroves, salt-marshes, melaleuca wetlands, grasslands and open forest. This attracts numerous bird species, such as waders, water fowl, kingfishers and flycatchers. This walk is easy and flat with a mixture of sealed and unsealed paths.
For those who went on our 2023 walk here, we'll be taking a different route this time 🙂
At the end of the walk, we’ll have a quick BYO morning tea and go through the bird list.
There are public toilets on-site at the picnic area approx.
