Birmingham voices

The "performances" will be about 2 hours including interval, broken into shorter contributions of 5, 10 mins or longer, including invited performers. New people are always welcome.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you want a performance slot. There will almost certainly be some available on the day, but I can't promise!

You do not have to read your own work. Just as valuable is to read a favourite piece and say what it means to you and why. We are a very friendly and welcoming group and this is a perfect place to try out your first performance or work in progress.

There's plenty of chance to meet other poets/authors. You are also encouraged to stay afterwards to discuss anything relevant. The Gunmakers has live music from 7.30 on Sundays.

More information on speakers and programmes will appear in the event chat. Please feel free to volunteer. Send a message to the organiser ASAP on meetup or at [email protected] saying what you plan to do and how long you require. If we cannot fit you in this time we will do our best to accommodate you in a future session.

This is the opportunity to have coffee (or tea or whatever with or without food or pastries) with like-minded authors, etc. If you're stuck or have a question or a block there are people to ask. If you want a prompt we'll help. Or if you just want to get your head down and write, that's fine too.

This is a free-form meeting that we find really useful as a regular space to make sure that big writing project gets a full morning's attention each week!

For writers (especially of poetry) who want their writing muscles stretched a wee bit more, or just want the opportunity for feedback we will trial monthly zoom event first Sunday of the month 7--9pm. These will be in two halves of 45mins with 30mins break between for tea/coffee and solo work.

First half: the lead will introduce the task, with plenty of examples and discussion.

Second half: share your work or a piece you have prepared earlier. Feedback and suggestions.
