- Signal KnobSignal Knob Trailhead, Fort Valley, VA
The Signal Knob hike in the George Washington National Forest is most frequently done counter-clockwise and usually involves a long trudge down a one mile gravel road. This time we'll go the opposite direction, skipping the gravel road altogether and instead travel along the ridgeline on the Meneka Peak trail. We'll intersect the Signal Knob trail and do an out-and-back to the overlook, where we'll stop for a rest and snack. The trail back to the parking lot will take us by the Fort Valley and Buzzard Rock overlooks.
This strenuous hike is about 10 miles long with an elevation gain of 2,000'. Most of the elevation gain is in the first 4.5 miles.
Please arrive early enough to be ready to hike at 9:00am. We'll hike at a 2.0 to 2.5 mph pace, slower on the ascents, so please make sure you're comfortable with this pace before signing up.
Dogs are allowed on this hike. Please contact me via private message if you would like to bring your dog.
Park fees: None.
