Aristotle, who was the student of Plato, who was the student of Socrates, was arguably the most influential philosopher of Western philosophy. He was the first philosopher to develop a complete theory of virtue ethics. His death in 322 BCE coincided with the death of his most famous student Alexander the Great of Macedon and marked the beginning of the Hellenistic period of philosophy, including Stoicism in 300 BCE.
Whether you’re new to Stoicism, or a practicing Stoic, you will benefit greatly from having a basic understanding of Aristotelian virtue ethics. In this meetup we will compare and contrast Aristotles version of virtue ethics with the Stoics version.
