Destination Highlights:

1. Gamkaberg Nature Reserve (Calitzdorp): Explore the rugged beauty of the Klein Swartberg mountains on trails such as the Spekboom, Muisvoël and Tierkloof hiking trails.
2. Springlands Guest Farm (Patensie): Relax in a tranquil setting surrounded by citrus orchards and mountain pools.
3. Mountain Zebra National Park (Cradock): Discover the unique fauna and flora of this protected area.
4. Valley of Desolation near Graaff Reinet: Marvel at the eerie landscape of dolerite columns.
5. Karoo National Park (Beaufort West): Experience the vast, arid beauty of the Great Karoo.

Basic agenda:
Day 1: 2025-01-03
Today's trip takes us through Swellendam, Tradouws Pass and Barrydale to reach Van Wyksdorp. Time will be spent to explore this quaint little Karoo village before continuing over Rooiberg pass to reach Gamkaberg Nature Reserve. After setting up camp, we hit the shorter trails such as Spekboom and Mousebird trail until it's time to get a campfire going.
Day 2: 2025-01-04
Most of today will be spent hiking the 14 km long Tierkloof trail at Gamkaberg Nature Reserve. If time allows us, we will take a 4x4 trip to the plato of Gamkaberg Nature Reserve during which Mountain Zebra and other wild game might be seen.
Day 3: 2025-01-05
We travel to Springlands Farm Cottages near Patensie in the Gamtoos Valley. Here we will set up camp for 2 nights after visiting Bergvenster and Phillips Tunnel.
Day 4: 2025-01-06
Explore the shorter trails at Springlands Farm and enjoy swimming in lovely rock pools. Some might take the opportunity to visit the Queen Victoria Profile on the way to the eastern side of the Baviaanskloof.
Day 5: 2025-01-07
From Springlands Farm we travel to Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park to enjoy an exciting zipline adventure over the Sundays River. Our next stop is at Mountain Zebra National Park where we will camp for the next three nights.
Day 6: 2025-01-08
Today we take an early drive along Ubejane Loop, Link Road and the Rooiplaat Loop inside Mountain Zebra National Park in search of wild such as: cheetah, Cape buffalo, black rhino, eland, black wildebeest, red hartebeest and gemsbok. Enjoy swimming at Fonteinkloof picnic site or take the shorter Imbila or Black Eagle Trail inside the park.
Day 7: 2025-01-09
A qualified and knowledgeable guide from the park will take us to Salpeterkop for a magnificent view over the Park and a rare view of an Anglo-Boer War relic. This event is at extra cost. Hikers should be fairly fit. Evening and Sunset game drives can also be booked for those that are interested.
Day 8: 2025-01-10
We pack up camp and leave the Park by 10:00 to drive to The Valley of Desolation near Graaff-Reinet. The viewpoints on the short Crag Lizard Trail provide a breath-taking view of piled dolerite columns against the backdrop of the plains of the Great Karoo. We will enjoy lunch here, before we continue further towards the Karoo National Park where we stay overnight for the next 2 nights.
Day 9: 2025-01-11
After 08:00 we take a scenic self-drive game viewing tour along the Klipspringer Pass Road and the Potlekkertjie Loop inside the Karoo National Park stopping at Doornhoek picnic site. Later the day we visit Bulkraal picnic site that offers a sparkling swimming pool, lush green grass, ablution and braai facilities. A fully-licensed, a la carte restaurant serves dinner until 21:00
Day 10: 2025-01-12
Before 10:00 we should be packed up and ready to leave the Karoo National Park. Our last stop will be at Laingsburg for breakfast before returning home.
Fee to join this tour adventure: R2 650 per person.
Cost includes: camping accommodation at all the nature reserves and national parks during this trip, facilitation fees.
Costs excluded: fuel, food, zipline cost, conservation fees at all reserves and national parks, cost of guided activities at Mountain Zebra National Park.
