Stairways are great cardio exercise and San Francisco has almost 700 of them. For this event, we will do walk #2 **Telegraph Hill and North Beach** in *Stairway Walks in San Francisco*. This area has fun alleys and stairways along with some great views. Yes, we will go up and down stairways so this can be a somewhat challenging walk. There are maybe **7 stairways, some short, and we walk down the longest** stairway, the Greenwich Stairs. There are also several non-stairway uphills.

Highlights besides the stairways include of course Coit Tower and Pioneer Park, plus minuscule Jack Early Park, historic buildings, wonderful views, and lots of gardens. I will share historical perspectives provided in the book at some points.

We will not walk in the commercial area of North Beach so you may want to plan on a stroll along Columbus before or after our walk.

Meet at **12:00 noon on the southeast corner of Lombard and Mason near the Joe DiMaggio playground and North Beach Library** (which has restrooms). This is just east of Columbus. We should finish in 2 hours. But **you can make this hike any length** you want as you can leave at any time during the route. This walk is a loop so it starts and ends in the same location.

Bring drinking **water and lunch**. As always, **dress in layers** as it can be cool or hot, especially those uphills. Wear **boots or sturdy shoes**.

**Please be on time** as we will start walking at 12:00 noon sharp and will not delay the group waiting for people who may end up being No Shows.
