Starting at the Bickerton Poacher, we incorporate part of Julia Bradbury’s route, which she advocates as ‘one of Britain’s best walks’.
Today, we’ll bag historic castles, rolling Countryside pastures and stunning panoramic views of the Cheshire plains following sandstone ridges, on this lovely walk.
We make our way to Bickerton Hill and on to the Iron Age hill fort of Maiden Castle, before dropping down to the lovely village of Brown Knowl.
Now we head for Raw Head, the highest point on the Sandstone Trail, making our way through woodland and then onto countryside pastures until we reach Peckforton Castle, taking in views of the former Royal castle of Beeston.
We follow the Peckforton hills, arriving at Bulkeley Hill, for final chance to take in the outstanding views that make this such a popular walk, before descending back down to one of the best Pubs in the area, the Bickerton Poacher.
