It’s time for a "Crazy Social Trail" run!

Our opportunity to do these are much less than they used to be because most of the social trails around Boulder have been built out into formal trails; however, if you get creative, they still exist.

What's a social trail? It's essentially an unofficial trail. In other words, these are no name trails that are typically formed by animals, occasional hikers/runners, etc. connecting two points. Because these trails are unmarked, you have to hear about them, or stumble upon them yourself, to know where they are (they may require a little imagination as well).

What this run is about is stringing together a number of these trails along with marked trails to create a unique route that you most likely haven’t run before (unless you were with us the last time). They also can be quite adventurous.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this particular run, one of the key sections is now private (as of 2021), so we are only able to use it because I talked to the owner and received permission. So, you won't be able to repeat this route without that permission.

The route will include wide track, single track, paved road, dirt road, and a little bush whacking. The route is a candy-wrapper loop, and we will be starting at one of the ends. There will be a good climb in the middle that we will do on the way out and on the way back, so expect 3300 ft of gain. Mileage will be a little over 14 miles and around 4 hours. It is possible to cut it short; however, since it is such a unique route, we will want to stay somewhat together.

We will meet and start from the Wonderland Lake Trailhead at Broadway St. and Sumac Ave in North Boulder at 7:45a. Parking is ok, but not huge. No toilets.

There is a major section that prohibits dogs, so please leave the dogs at home for this one. Sorry.

...and for the engineers in the group that may go crazy without being able to research the route ahead of time, I'll give you a hint. It includes the Anne U. White trail ;-)

As a side note, it would also be possible to meet us at the Anne U. White trailhead (probably sometime between 9:30a and 10:00a). This trail is short at only 3 miles total; however, you could run back with us (for a total of around 8.5 miles), assuming someone is willing to give you a lift back to your car after the run.

I don't expect we'll need traction after the temperatures this week.
