What we’re about
Gig buddies was set up in early 2012 (thanks Nicola!) and has grown into one of the biggest and most active Brighton meetup groups.
Brighton is a fantastic place to see live music. We’ve got the venues, promoters, bands and festivals that make it special, but it can be frustrating if you’ve not got friends who want to go to the same gigs as you, and who can come out whenever you want them to. You might be new to Brighton, or your friends have “settled down” and stopped going out so much, or maybe you’ve come out of the other side of settling down yourself. Gig buddies is about getting the most out of the Brighton live music scene and meeting new friendly people while doing it.
It’s important that the group keeps the social side of things at its core, rather than it just being a gig listing site, so each meetup has an organiser who will make the arrangements for when and where to meet. For more details of how it works see our about page.
New people are always very welcome – get involved!
(You may have heard of the other Gig Buddies group in Brighton – the project run by the Stay Up Late charity. They match volunteers with people who have learning difficulties, to go to gigs together. We’re not connected to them, but you should have a look at their website and consider volunteering.)

See all- Moonchild SanellyAttenborough Centre for Creative Arts, Brighton
Moonchild Sanelly is clearly on her way to being a global superstar, so this is a great opportunity to see her in a lovely venue like this.
I wouldn't try to categorise her music, but the gig blurb says: "She soon established her own signature sound, self-described as ‘future-ghetto-funk’ veers between Amapiano, Gqom (South African sub-genres of house), grime, pop, house and R&B. With electrifying live shows and self-designed flamboyant outfits, she became a superstar on her home turf and soon found a global audience."
Her collab with Self Esteem, Big Man, was the earworm I had all summer.

Tickets also available through DICE: Moonchild Sanelly (plus support)
The Attenborough Centre is on the Sussex Uni campus at Falmer, easy to get to by bus or train. I'll update with details of how to meet nearer the time.
- Cassandra JenkinsKomedia Brighton, Brighton
New York based American singer-songwriter, with an understated vocal style. Gideon Coe is a big fan - if you're a listener, that is hopefully recommendation enough.
New album "My Light, My Destroyer" will be out soon, but 2021's "An Overview on Phenomenal Nature" is a classic.
It looks like she's at The Great Escape, so look out for her there and come to a full show at Komedia!
YouTube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/@CassandraJenkinsOfficial. Hard Drive and Ambiguous Norway are well worth a listen.
