What we’re about
The goal of Bristol Nerds is to provide an active social community for people who are interested in things of the nerdy variety.
We aim to hold one "Hangout" event every 1-2 months with a variety of ad-hoc events taking place around that.
We have a very active WhatsApp and Discord communities around our events (links in event descriptions). Join for discussion and ad-hoc events around all sorts of things. Food | Memes | Sports | Boardgames | Books | Many more..
FAQ
What counts as being a Nerd?
As silly as it sounds absolute anything! We've had all sorts of nerds join us over the years. All you really need is a willingness to engage with everyone else non-judgementally. If you aren't into anime/gaming/whatever thats fine.
What can I expect from events?
Our hangout events are primarily free style socializing events in which you arrive and can talk to anyone.
Please keep in mind there are rules you should be aware of before attending - (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KclUulN0b5aJIj17vf1Aq_hrmK3wnhUnub4RHnTH2FY/edit?usp=sharing).
We take the safety and comfort of all members very seriously, you should treat everyone you speak to as humans. That means zero tolerance to hatred or creepy behaviours.
How do I join the social communities?
Most events will have social links, we dont have them here due to bots. We have a discord server and a set of WhatsApp's. Some events only appear in WhatsApp/Discord so if you are really keen to get fully involved you will want to join those. We have a variety of different WhatsApps for different topics so remember to browse the community and join all groups that apply to you.
What if I feel very shy/anxious about attending?
Dont worry this is (unsurprisingly) quite common amongst nerds/introverts. Everyone attends their first meetup at some point and it is generally a bit nerve wracking. The good news is once you've done it once it gets much much easier. Mainly remember you aren't under pressure to be chatty or to remain engaged, you can just join us and sit quietly if you want. You may want to arrive on-time/early as there will be less people at that point, so its easier to introduce yourself.
That being said if you do want re-assurance feel free to message me (Harry) the organizer to ask questions. If you are in the WhatsApp or Discords, message in one of the chats and people will reassure you.
