Photo exhibition 'Now Keep Quite Still'
Details
Bristol photographer Herbert Shergold took Hollywood-esque portrait photos in the 1950s and 1960s using glass negatives, a practice that had fallen out of popularity since the 1920s. Most of his sitters were local residents, however Shergold was gay and some of the men posed semi-clad while others wore feminine clothing and makeup, likely seeing a space where they could be themselves.
A small exhibition titled Now Keep Quite Still is running at The Launderette, 145 Cheltenham Road, Cotham.
