Bob's Walk - The Architecture of Frank Furness
Details
Bob Gurmankin had a passion for architecture and the historic buildings surrounding his Philly neighborhood. Over the last 4 years, he published a weekly article called "Know Your Neighborhood" for his Franklin North Facebook Group. Each Monday he highlighted a different historical building or area of Philadelphia with well researched information and archival photographs. In April of 2023, Bob took his love of sharing Philly's history with others to the next level. He developed and led a Philly walking tour of many of the remaining buildings designed by famed Philadelphia Architect Frank Furness. This is Bob's walk. Please join me in remembering Bob on his walk.
This will be a 6 mile round trip moderately paced, mostly flat walk on paved city streets. We will begin introductions at 9:30am in front of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) building located at 118 North Broad Street in Philadelphia.
Our path will take us through many Philly neighborhoods where we'll stop at each Frank Furness building to admire the architecture and learn about the building from Bob's original notes.
Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and snacks.
Steady rain cancels event. Update will be posted in Meetup by 6am the day of the event. Rain date will be December 8th.
If you sign up for this event and your plans change, Please remember to update your RSVP in Meetup.
