What we’re about
Are you someone who loves diving into thought-provoking discussions, exploring big ideas, or just sharing your latest philosophical read?
Let us invite you to a friendly session where we will discuss philosophical topics.
The topics can be chosen in advance by the assisting members.
Preparation or previous expertise is welcomed but not enforced. Everybody can take part in this group.
We will have a person in charge to hunt for fallacies, a moderator to measure time and another to help recover information when needed, using available tools (like Google, chat gpt)
We will start our session with this statement: we want Philosophy to be about the process of thinking and not about finding the truth.

See all- Session #2 - Classic approaches to happinessMűterem Kávézó, Budapest
"Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence." (Aristotle)
At the request of some of our members, we’ve decided to make our second session about happiness. Since this is such a broad topic, I suggest we focus on contrasting three classic approaches to happiness:
- Aristotelian Eudaimonia
- Epicurean Ataraxia (and/or Hedonism)
- Stoic Apatheia
The idea is to spend this week’s time researching happiness from any of these perspectives, or bring in what you already know to deepen our understanding of them.
Session Outline
- Introductions (30 minutes)
We’ll start with a quick round of introductions. Each participant can share which of the four approaches they’d like to research and discuss. - Group Research Time (30 minutes)
Participants will divide into groups based on their chosen approach. Together, we’ll spend time researching these philosophies. Feel free to bring relevant books, look up resources online, or use ChatGPT to take notes. Some of our members might even speak the native languages of some philosophers, adding a unique perspective to our session. The goal is for everyone to leave the session knowing a bit more than they did before. - Group Discussion (1 hour)
After our research, we’ll contrast the different philosophical views, connect them to our own experiences, and keep the discussion engaging by asking questions. Each participant will have a 5-minute turn to speak, with an additional 1-minute for responses or contributions, ensuring that everyone has a chance to participate.
What to Bring: A notebook is recommended.
RSVP: Please confirm your attendance on Meetup so we can reserve enough space. Feel free to join the Facebook group for ideas, suggestions, and to keep in touch with other members: Budapest Philosophy Group.
Looking forward to learning more about happiness together 🧠✨
