Do you want to improve society in new and innovative ways? Are you passionate about helping people who suffer from mental illness and/or addiction? Are you intrigued by the possibilities of the "psychedelic renaissance"? If your answer to any of these three questions is yes, then this is a group for you!
Our goal is to brainstorm solutions, mobilize citizens, and create change to promote mental health at mass scale, hence the name. More specifically, we want to help fill the gaps in existing mental health advocacy, especially when it comes to critical debates on cannabis and psychedelics. Our group is in favor of the legalization of cannabis and psychedelic drugs, like psilocybin and MDMA, with demonstrated therapeutic potential.
This said, this group is a safe space to discuss the experiences of people harmed by cannabis and/or psychedelics and to discuss the concerns of people unlikely to benefit from them, including people with manic and psychotic disorders. Not every event will be cannabis and/or psychedelics focused.
The bottom line is this: the mental healthcare system is awful and the only way to improve it is to take action. In 2024, people shouldn't have to worry about a psychiatric hospitalization or stay in rehab ending their promotion opportunities at work. In 2024, people shouldn't be forced by their insurance companies to slog through months of ineffective medications just to qualify for the more expensive, more effective medication their doctor wanted them to try initially. In 2024, people who suffer from life-crippling addiction, anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD, the conditions emerging psychedelic therapies are intended to treat, should be centered in decision-making about access.
It is up to us to make the difference. Whether you are simply interested in making the world a better place or you suffer from addiction and/or mental illness, by joining this group, you can help fill a critical gap in the advocacy space.
