Best Practices for Events Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve is Hosting
1) Most Events are limited to 12 incl. Host/Guide. Most Events are posted on a Maximum of 3 Meetup Sites to avoid over cross-posting. Once limit is reached others go on a wait-list.
2) 3Days prior to event start time host/guide Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve will Post a Re-Confirmation of GOING Notice in the Event Comments Section and any Event Updates. We Request Re-Confirmation of GOING by posting GOING in the Comments Section up to 24hrs. before start time of most events if no wait-list or 48hr. before start time of event if event is maxed and has a wait-list. If no re-confirmation is received by 48hrs. prior to event start time spot(s) available will be released to those on a wait-list. For those on a wait-list, spots will be released via prvt. message with Confirmation Reply of GOING Requested from Host/Guide up to 24 hrs. prior to event in the comments section. Once maximum number of spots have been re-confirmed all others on a wait-list will be given notice that event has maxed out. Event RSVPs close 48hrs./2Days prior to event ***With Meetup you can't edit your RSVP Going to Not Going once Event RSVPs Close if you are logged in using the Website Login Method but you can via the APP. If you need to Edit your RSVP and are having trouble you can give notice in the events comment section or prvt message me. ***Receiving messages does not work when mobile web login but does work on APP and Web Login using a Computer/Laptop.
***To Re-CONFIRM GOING just commenting the word GOING is all that is needed.
3) 24 hrs. prior to Event Total Re-Confirmed Going will be posted in Event Comment Section regardless of total RSVP Going number shown which will give us a better number of those actually showing vs no-shows. This also should be the latest host Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve cancels or changes an event unless unforeseen issues or weather conditions.
4) Habitual changing status from Going to Not-Going on Meetup 12hrs. or less prior to event start time is cause for person(s) being flagged.
5) Host Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve will be available on the FREE Zello 2-Way Walkie Talkie Communication APP https://zello.com/personal/download/ on Unique Event Channel 1.5hrs prior to event start time for Instant 2-Way Walkie Talkie style communication to help in all regards. IE: Directions. This is easier with a faster reply than messaging.
6) Most Events Start Time show a 15min. meet&greet time prior to actual starting of event. Any Late Arrivals once event has started may get updated info via the FREE Zello 2-WayWalkie Talkie Communication APP on the unique event channel. which is preferred vs messaging which is easier and faster for the host/guide to respond.
7) 3x that an attendee fails to show at an event without changing status Going to Not-Going is cause for removal from group.
8) Host Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve has the option to cancel event or non-host/guide event up to 24hrs. prior to event if a min. of 4 Re-Confirmed Attendees is not reached, weather and/or other.
***All notices above and last minute notices will be given in the Comments Section of Meetup event and also in the discussion section of event via the hosting Facebook Page/Group. This is an additional way all attendees can stay updated and on any last minute changes to event. ***If you are getting too many emails go to settings and adjust but be sure to check comments of event starting 4Days Prior to event.
***Most events Steven Caliridion/Goodwill Ambassador Steve Host will be min. of 4.
====RULES FOR POSTING MEETUPS=====
Before posting your meetup, come back here and check the rules for posting a meetup BEFORE you post to make sure your meetup is acceptable. Meetups not following these rules will be deleted.
You can post anything you like as long as it's not
- Something offensive (you have some leeway here, just don't piss people off).
***Group Trips should be posted on Caliridion Travel and/or Goodwill Ambassadors Travel Groups. Contact if you would like to be able to create trips and post. ***
- Something illegal
- Something that's similar to a craigslist post.
- Something that is overtly or covertly promotional without express permission in advance of The Admin of the group
- Something that is trying to promote an App or Website or Social Media. Hooch or other scams are not allowed.
- Posts of events of other groups is OK WITH permission of The Admin. No links to other groups. The event must be able to stand on its own. Do NOT divert or direct members to other groups.
NO OUTSIDE LINKS ALLOWED UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY: Outside links are links to websites, or social media or anything. You are only allowed to use outside links if they are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to your meetup, AND you get prior approval from Admin. If you do not have approval: the links or event will be removed.
DO NOT E-MAIL MESSAGE THE GROUP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES: You may not email members or message the group via meetup using the bulk email feature for any reason, if you think or feel you need to do so, message The Admin to do it for you. ***You MAY message and/or email those that already RSVPd to CONFIRM GOING to your event or to let them know about any changes. Do this directly and NOT with the bulk email feature. Violation of this will result in immediate removal, and then you can explain after and get back in the group.
SPAM: If you use the "discussion box" feature or if you use bulk email to spam groups you will be removed. There is zero tolerance for spam from Event Organizers or Members of this group. This group will not be associated with allowing spam. Do not overuse the discussion box since we ALL receive more than enough messages/e-mails to try to weed through.
YOU MUST ATTEND YOUR OWN MEETUP: You must host the meetup in-person and be present at your own meetup. You must least a clear way and where for people to meetup at the event. If there is a no host event you will be asked to add a host or the event will be removed. https://Meetup.com rules state there are no "No Host" events allowed.
THE MORE NOTICE THE BETTER: Meetups MUST be posed at least 1 day in advance, but the more the better. Please don't post any same-day or last-minute meetups; it's not enough time for people to make plans to attend. Four weeks advance will get you the most RSVP's
Important:::MEETUPS MUST BE MEETUP ORIENTED and ***related to what the Group is about.***
DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE ANYONE ELSE'S MEETUP: Admin will ban anyone that edits or deletes someone else's meetup without their permission.
Frequency: It is ideal to NOT repeat an event less than 6 weeks. There are exceptions. Just ask The Admin if you wish to post carbon copy events in less time. This rule is aimed at event promoters or bands. Repeating a band at a different location is a repeat. If you think The Admin will see your event as a copy that you are promoting, then contact first and ask for permission
Money: If your event has a charge of more than $10 You MUST message the main admin BEFORE you post.
MEETUPS THAT VIOLATE THE ABOVE RULES WILL BE EDITED or DELETED. The person who posted it may receive a warning afterwards or they may be removed and placed on hold pending sorting out of any issues. IF your event is Edited or Deleted contact The Admin. Do NOT re-insert removed content.
If any negative issues are suspected or encountered please contact us directly @ [email protected]

Click here for a nice vid of Red Rock CanyonIn addition to Valley of Fire AND Red Rock Cyn Dec 21 and 22 is the peak for the Ursids Meteor Shower
If you have not heard of either . . . that's because they are outside of California. We have so much here that we often can overlook what is right next-door and still super close.
The other reason you may not of heard of them . . . Valley of Fire is a Nevada State Park and not a National Park. State Parks are assumed to not be as good as National Parks.
Red Rock is a National Conservation Area . . . again . . . assumed to not be as good since not designated as National Park. The reality is BOTH are stunning. And the designations make them more accessible.
Valley Of Fire has "The Fire Wave." Similar "The Wave" in UT.
This event is tent camping (not RV or Van). You do need to provide your own gear and food. (more on that down below). We are staying outside of Red Rock on a private non-federal, non-blm site.
The general itinerary/ schedule is:
Fri-
Arrive when you can. Anytime AFTER 2PM. People will be arriving up to midnight. I will be away to greet you and show you where to go. Along with whoever else is at the campfire at that time.Sat- Valley Of Fire - - This is the main fun.
- Drive Mouse’s Tank Road towards Fire Wave and take lots of photos along the way.
- Now to our "main hike." We will get there early before the crowds. We will do a loop of four hikes together. Fire Wave, Pink Pastel Slot Cyn, Domes Slot, White Domes. They call it the 7 wonders loop. I do not know what the other three wonders are.
- After that we make it to Fire Cyn Vista (this is a view only)
- Then two short hikes of Rainbow Vista trail (this has natural arches)
- & Mouse's Tank trial. This has 2000 year old petroglyphs all along the cyn walls.
- A quick zip to Atlatl Rock (more petroglyphs)
- And lastly visit the Beehives and take tons more pix there.
- Elephant Rock is also an option to drive to.
- Get back to camp and we have a fab campfire all nite.
- Dec 21st is the peak of the Ursids Meteor Shower. We have a show instore for us in the dark desert skies.
Sunday Schedule will be Red Rock Cyn.
- Easy vista points and views
- Medium (two or three smaller hikes)
- Hard hike (for the hardcore among us.
- We will break to groups accordingly by who wants to do what.
- Get back to camp and we have a fab campfire all nite.
Monday: Head home.
- For those only staying Sat & Sun eve. Simply pack up Sun AM and do Red Rock with us and then continue home.
Time of year:
BOTH Valley of Fire and Red Rock Nat Rec Area are MISERABLE in summer.
Daytime high will get up to 70 degrees. Perfect for hikes. Nighttime low will get to around 45 degrees. Just bring some extra blankets and you will fine.Another benefit of the time of year is Christmas is the 24th/25th. Many folks can take Monday 23rd off super easy to make it a 3 day weekend.
RSVP does not guarantee your spot. Payment is the only way to secure you place.
CLICK HERE for Payment link (per person 4 days, 3 nights)
OR
( https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/9HBBWT977EP24 )Question: What if I have a +1 or +whatever?
Cost is Per Person. Just do the payment link a 2nd or 3rd time.Question: When do I have to pay by?
- The event is limited in size.
- Our events always fill up. And with lower limit . . . it will fill faster.
- When it fills the payment link is removed. If you did not pay you are not attending.
- The short answer is pay now to 100% secure your spot.
- Refunds issued up to 2 weeks before event start date. So you have till Dec 6 to cancel.
- If cancel after Dec 6 receive 100% credit towards a future event.
Question: What if I stay two nights. Is it less?
No. But since we have for Sun night you can stay as late as you want on Sunday before packing up. It gives us flexibility. Why not stay till Mon?Question: Dogs?
This is a very dog friendly trip.
Dogs OK on the trails and in camp.Carpool? We help facilitate carpools for attendees. Carpool info
- Poppy Bloom in Antelope Valley. AND Hockney, Llano and Devil's Punchbowl201 S Front St, Burbank, CA
The bloom for 2024 is not ready yet. AND . .. I am not available to lead a Poppies Road Trip past the weekend of 4-13
The weekend of 4-13 is projected as rain and cold. Not good for causing blooms. Needs to be dry and warmer.
Carrizo Pain will be Rain.
Lancaster . . . they have just not bloomed.I did ask if a group member was willing to be lead in my place. I have had no takers. As such this event is being moved to next year.
We will try again then.If you have never been here before . . . it worth seeing.
If you have been before . . . it's time to revisit.
Let's get to the event date first . . . The poppies bloom anywhere from Feb to May.
At the moment we are aiming for April 14th
https://ktla.com/news/california/southern-california-poised-for-another-wildflower-superbloom/amp/Or https://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/wildupdates.html
We'll walk some or most of the 8 miles of trails--not all of it.
Each spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve comes alive with the seasonal surprises of the Mojave Desert Grassland habitat. The duration and intensity of colors and scents vary from year to year. The wildflower season generally lasts from as early as mid-February through late May,
Parking Fees
$10 per vehicle
$9 per vehicle with a senior on board (62 and over)
$5 per vehicle with DPR Disabled Discount Card (see below)Be prepared for wicked strong winds and bring sunblock! The desert temperatures can vary widely and change suddenly, so bring layers for unpredicted changes in weather.
Dogs are NOT allowed on trails or in the visitor center (just like any California Sate Park)
Whether you most enjoy expansive fields or the close-up study of a single flower, this is the place to visit.
Location - Directions The Reserve is located 15 miles west of Lancaster at 15101 Lancaster Road.
From Highway 14: Take the Avenue I exit and head west 15 miles. Avenue I becomes Lancaster Road.
From I-5: Take Hwy 138 east and turn right on 170th Street West. Make a left at the end, onto Lancaster Road. Follow the road two miles.
Carpool? YES!!!!
We will meet at the meet time and address. That location is a designated Park & Ride. It is a free lot that has roving security in the area. So it's safe to leave your car for the day.
We meet and then re-shuffle to then pool and caravan to the Poppies.
Why this location as meet-point? It's rather central. And just off the 5 . . . the main freeway we need to take to get there.
Carpool to our meetpoint? Sure. Post in the comments on the main group posting.
This is a free hiking event that take a little more work to make happen than a quickie local thing. This is not local in-town. As such you will drive to and meet there. OR you will use the carpool info sent a week before to work on setting up a carpool.
To attend this event:
- RSVP on this event (then)
- Click Here and fill out our Attendees google form
The form is a safety thing. If you do not fill it out. You will not be hiking with us.
