***Soundscapes of Jamaica Plain***: A Free Chamber Concert, inspired by the Arnold Arboretum and the other parks along the Emerald Necklace

In 2019, Andrew List—a composer and professor of composition at Berklee College of Music—was commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra to create a piece for chamber orchestra as part of their Artist-in-Residence program. The resulting work, titled The Emerald Necklace, is a three-movement composition inspired by the natural beauty of greenspace in our community. A longtime member and visitor, List incorporated elements of the Arnold Arboretum in the work, informed by visits to the archives to examine ancient tools and arrowheads found in our landscape. Though delayed by the pandemic, the BSO will present the world premiere of The Emerald Necklace on Saturday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain.
