In lieu of attending our regular, in-person Thursday game nights at AMF Lanes, Camel City Gamers can elect to continue playing DIGITAL games online. CCG Digital game nights take place each Thursday, using Discord voice chat, and sites like boardgamearena.com and yucata.de. Most members join the Discord server Thursday night without having RSVPed for the specific Meetup event, so don't be discouraged by the apparently low attendance. We meet at 6:30 on game nights, socialize on voice chat while deciding what games to play, and usually start games around 6:45.

We realize that gathering in person and socializing face-to-face is one of the things that make our regular game nights so special. We replicate that experience online as best we can, and we have a great time chatting and playing games over Discord.

There are a variety of digital platforms we can utilize to play games. The two platforms we use the most are Board Game Arena and Yucata, which are mostly free-to-play, and feature 2D graphics of games that can be played right in your web browser. They enforce the rules and feature automatic scoring. We occasionally play board game adaptations purchased on Steam which feature 3D graphics, special effects, sound, and music. There are also 3D sandbox board game engines like Tabletop Simulator and Tabletopia that provide the ability to play thousands of games, but most of their games don't enforce the rules, nor do they do automatic scoring. Each platform has its pros and cons. Most are free to play, but some require at least one player to own the digital game or have a premium membership. Most Steam games require that each player has purchased the game.
