What we’re about
Capital Strings and Voices Collective is about building new paradigms in music education and performance. Our intergenerational ensembles are kept small - every voice counts, players gets individual attention to help them improve fast, and we create an environment that aims to support music as a lifelong activity. www.capitalstringsandvoices.ca
We welcome music lovers of varying ages and abilities who play violin, viola, cello or bass. No auditions are required. Our performances have take place at seniors centres, local festivals, the NAC, and we have even for the naval reserve! We also participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival and won their top orchestra score
Jr. Capital Strings Collective meets from 5:45pm -6:55pm.
(String players are typically 5 - 13 with some parent participation too!) Reading music is practiced and theory games are included in our concert repertoire preparation. We perform works from the Suzuki repertoire as well as original music that kids love! Players have a minimum of one year of private lessons.
Capital Stings Collective meets from 7pm -9pm
Class for players are typically in Suzuki Book 4 or RCM grade 5 or higher. Advanced players serve as mentors and learn techniques to help their own teaching and playing; less advanced players learn ways to quickly advance their skills through learning body mapping and good practice skills! Our repertoire includes classics through pop and jazz.
There is a tuition fee; some scholarships are available.
Playing expressively is our goal...we learn the technique necessary to support what we want to hear!
Rehearsals are held in a master class style - we sit in a semicircle and build musical expertise as we learn music than spans multiple genres - from baroque to pop with some jazz and folk infused too!
We play on Tuesday evenings at Park Place Senior Living on Central Park Drive (off Merivale near Baseline). We serve our community by engaging with seniors and others who may feel isolated.
