This gentle 12.1km walk leads into a stunning rural area very close to the city of Cardiff. Starting in Dinas Powys, follow the path along the Cadoxton River, heading through grassland and woodland of Cwm George and Casehill Woods.

Continue on the riverside path past Michaelston-le-pit, crossing the river and following the lane through the various fields on an ascent past Wenvoe Quarry towards the site of Caerau Hillfort. Caerau Hill Fort (Bringer Caerau) is an Iron Age hillfort near the ruins of St Mary’s Church, overlooking the west of the city of Cardiff. Retrace your steps to meander through Coed Penllwynog and along the Cadoxton River before heading through Coed Clwyd-gwyn to return to Dinas Powys. Within the woodland, you’ll also pass the site of the Dinas Powys hillfort.

Please keep in mind that the paths can get quite muddy after rainfall so please where appropriate footwear.

Timings are approximate and we can stop after for a pubstop if people want to.
