Update: I am planning to start with the purple loop on this hike and it is very hilly. Poles are highly recommended if you use them.
My son and I did this hike today and it took about 1 hour and 40 minute for the purple section. So we will play it by ear on Yellow afterwards.

I am continuing training for the [Mammoth March](https://www.mammothmarch.com/delaware-valley-25) on May 31st and planning to schedule five to seven mile hikes every other Sunday on the different trails at Fair Hill (weather dependent).

Yellow and Purple trail hike on Sunday morning, start time is 11:45 AM and should take two-and-a-half to three hours. The total distance is approximately 6 miles. Both the Yellow loop and the Purple loop are geared toward moderate hikers. The trail ranges from single-file to three-four people wide.

There is an option to head back to the parking lot after the first loop.

Yellow - Distance 3.2 miles
Trail users enjoy scenic views at the Scott’s Mill Bridge crossing on Big Elk Creek after a fairly rapid downhill descent. Continue north along the creek to enjoy the serene beauty. It will take approximately an hour and a half to walk the Yellow Trail.

Purple - Distance 2.9 miles
The Purple trail has a lot of ups-and-downs and has plenty of clearance between the trail and surrounding brush. The trail could be suitable for equestrian use, but keep in mind there are low-hanging branches and vines along the trail.

Hiking poles are always useful at Fair Hill.

Parking at Lot #5 (South Appleton Road lot). **Parking fee is $3 for in-state and $5 for out-of-state. Cash box only - Fair Hill does not have credit card payment for parking.**

* Parking Lot #5 (2000 Appleton Road) - Also known as the South Appleton Parking Lot. From the Rt. 273/Rt. 213 intersection: Drive east on Rt. 273 until the traffic circle at Appleton Road. Turn right on Appleton Road; drive approximately one half mile. Parking lot is located on the right side of the road.
* From Newark, drive west on Rt. 273 and turn left onto Appleton Road at the traffic circle. Drive approximately one half mile, and the parking lot is on the right side of the road.
