Sand Creek Conservation Area

Details

Sand Creek Conservation Area is located about 4 miles south of Decatur and is primarily known for its hiking and horse trail that winds through forest, open prairie, and floodplain. In addition to wildlife and natural habitat, part of the historic Paris-Springfield Road passes through the grounds. The 7.6-mile horse trail winds its way through the varied habitats of the site, with six fords crossing parts of Sand Creek. The equestrian trail is 10 feet wide and 10 feet high.

We will hike about 4 miles and will have a creek crossings. There may be stone steps to cross on, but be prepared to get wet feet just in case and maybe a hcnage of shoes for the apres. There are pit toilets available at the trailhead.

The apres will be in a separate event and will require a separate rsvp.
