Lost Bridge Trail - East

The Lost Bridge Trail is a converted Baltimore & Ohio railway line that runs from the IDOT parking lot on Dirksen Parkway to the Village of Rochester. The trail crosses the South Fork of the Sangamon River near Rochester, and crosses Sugar Creek near Springfield. The Lost Bridge trail name recalls IDOT's failure to prevent salvagers affiliated with the B&O from dismantling the Sugar Creek bridge for scrap. IDOT had to build a new bridge.
The trail is completely paved and mostly shaded, providing a nice, easy walk conducive to conversation. We'll start in Rochester in the parking lot of Nesty’s Burger Joint, then walk to the Sangamon River Bridge. The return may vary, either directly back along the LBT, or maybe a deviation through Rochester Park.
