Little Bites of A.T. Hikes Part 27: Salt Log Gap out and back(Day Hike,10 miles)

We have already completed 200+ miles of the A.T. in VA and are continuing south.

The road driving from Fish Hatchery to Salt Log Gap is way too long and complicated so making this hike an out and back instead of point to point.
For those wondering what is the status of Fish Hatchery. I hiked up to the AT from nature parking lot. 1.5 miles. The pictures seem to support that the road is privatized, however that works. I am not a fan of causing trouble with horse riding country yahoos.

Also note the road to Salt Log Gap trailhead is 2.5 miles up a gravel road. It is not rutted out though at this time.

Out and back NOBO from Salt Log Gap to Seely-Woodworth Shelter, and the pace will be closer to 2.0-2.5 mph as necessary. Meeting at the trailhead does not work for this series. I will match the group’s pace to that of the slowest hiker. Take note that this is a slower pace than some other hike series CVT does.
10 miles @ 2.2 mph = 4.5 hours of hike time.

Since these are shorter hikes, we combine them with OPTIONAL visits to local wineries for tastings and bon vivanterie.

Elevation Change: +1900 - 1200 feet

Hike Pace: Moderate 2.0 - 2.5 mph

Recommended hiking gear: (Broken in hiking shoes/boots; backpack with water, snacks, rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, basic first aid kit)

Organizer will Provide: very basic first aid and send out additional hike details and carpool location the day before via email. (Check your notification settings)

Dogs Allowed: NO

Bring a snack or lunch for the trail - we will stop and eat/rest in a nice spot. It is typical to contribute $$ to driver to defray the cost of gas prices.

Cancellation: If weather becomes an issue, please check your email or contact the "Adventure Specialist" for this event.

GENERAL DETAILS

RSVPS close FRIDAY Sept. 20th (day before) the event. This provides time for organizer to organize, settle things, and notify all of group plans. Organizer will send a DM Friday with the carpool location (west end of Richmond VA). Please check your Meetup Site settings so that you get emails from event organizers.

If you cannot sign up it most likely means that event is full, or you + number of guests exceeds max amount, or RSVPs are closed.
