Talk & Social - Why Exeter needs a Science Centre π§ͺπ¬π and How You Can Help πͺ
Details
The first event of the New Year is one to energize us with hope for a Fabulous New Year in our new format, with a short talk, about 15-20 minutes, at the start of the evening - subjects and projects to get you thinking, inspire, or get involved with.
We'll then have an opportunity for questions before we break out into our usual Green Drinks social and you can continue to chat
Leading us into this bright New Year will be Dr Natalie Whitehead presenting us with a glimpse of an inspiring vision to elevate the South West to a whole new level of opportunity.
Exeter Science Centre's vision for a positive future is one where the public is informed, inspired and empowered to help make the kind of society that we all want to live in. And they want you to be part of it! In this talk, they'll outline their plans for a network of science centres in the region, starting in Exeter and Barnstaple, and how you can get involved to help make it happen.
Natalie gained her PhD in Physics at the University of Exeter, and immediately set out to create the Exeter Science Centre with Co-Founder Dr Alice Mills, who has a PhD in Astrophysics and was an Outreach Officer at the university when the duo met. They are passionate about connecting the public with research and industry, and aim to bridge these groups so we can all work together to tackle global issues.
ESC has been a registered charity since April 2021, and is supported by a team of ad hoc volunteers, Trustees, a Strategic Advisory Board, and their Patron, George Monbiot. They run projects and events across the region, and their overall mission is to educate, motivate, and empower the public to make a difference in the world.
If you want to hear the talk please RSVP if you can, so we have an idea of numbers and please try and arrive promptly so we can get started by 19:30
About Green Drinks
We're a very friendly group and the event is hosted so you will be greeted and introduced to others, so please don't worry about coming on your own, you'll very quickly make new friends and settle in.
And you don't need to RSVP, although that does help me identify you, and you don't need to register or be a part of this group - it's open to all.
Join fellow lovers of nature and wildlife for a friendly social, an agenda free, relaxed evening for drinks (food if you like) and free-flowing conversation with new friends.
We'd love to meet you and do encourage your friends, family, or colleagues to join us.
As host I'll make sure you feel welcome and relaxed π
The evening starts at 19:00, the talk at about 19:15, but you can pop in at any time that suits you.
If you do enjoy the evening we'd really appreciate your making a small donation of 50p or Β£1 on the night (there will be a collection tin there). It costs me (Vipul) Β£240 a year to have this meetup account.
P.S. Green Drinks is not part of any political Party and, more importantly, there are no actual green drinks π¬
