What we’re about
The Charlotte Aeromodelers Club operates from the McCracken Aerodrome located in Union County near the intersection of HWYs 218 and 200, 14 miles east of I-485 Exit 44. We are affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (www.modelaircraft.org) and are part of the Academy’s District 4 (District 4 Facebook page).
Our first class facility consists of 5 acres of unobstructed land. It is one of the finest sites in the Southeast and allows us to host a wide variety of events each year. We have electricity available at our shelters and a 24 hour weather station so you can check the conditions at the field. (see "weather" link on home page). In addition to our main runway (600 x 125 feet), we also have a dedicated flightline for helicopters, quadcopters, and 3d aircraft.
The McCracken Aerodrome is named after our land owners and members, Doug and Lou Ann McCracken. It is the home to the Charlotte Aeromodelers and is a place for our families, neighbors and friends to gather to spend time doing what we love, flying model airplanes and sharing our knowledge of the sport.
