Details: NORTH RIM TRAIL - 6.30 MILES - out & back (total of 12.6 over two days)
INTERMEDIATE
This is a longer trail with more overlooks than any other trail at Savage Gulf. It follows the edge of the plateau on the north side of the Savage Creek Gulf. The trail begins from the Savage Day Loop Trail.
0.3 Suspension bridge across Meadow Creek; the North Plateau Trail begins to the right in 230’.
0.6 Meadow Creek Overlook - Savage and Meadow Creeks join directly below this 100’ bluff.
0.7 Savage Creek Overlook - the creek is visible up the gulf.
1.4 Loose Rock Overlook.
1.7 Overlook of a cliff fall which wiped out everything from plateau top to creek-side, in January 1984. 2.0 Trail crosses Lick Creek.
2.2 Several overlooks of the short Lick Creek Gulf. 2.5 Ford across Quartz Pebble Creek.
2.8 West end of Mountain Oak Trail to the right.
2.9 Wooden bridge across Jumpin’ Water Branch.
3.3 Jumpin’ Water Overlook.
3.5 Yellow Bluff Overlook - at 200’ is Savage Gulf’s tallest bluff.
3.6 Over Pine Overlook.
4.7 Trail Edge Overlook.
5.0 Tommy Point Overlook.
6.1 Split Rock Overlook – Stone Door bluffs can be seen in the distance.
6.3 Connector Trail to the left; North Plateau Trail straight ahead; Hobbs Cabin and Campground is at the top of the hill to the right.

HOBBS CABIN CAMPGROUND
Nightly rates vary based on date and availability.
Reservations are required. Applicable taxes and fees applied at checkout. The $5 reservation fee per site is non-refundable.
Hobbs Cabin Campground offers seven backcountry campsites with a maximum occupancy of six per campsite, one group campsite with a maximum occupancy of 30, and one backcountry cabin with a maximum occupancy of six.
Entering from the Savage Gulf East parking lot; campground is 8.5 miles via the Savage Day Loop and North Rim trails. There is a spring behind the cabin. Water may not be available during dry conditions.
Group Campsite:
Hobbs Cabin Campground offers one group campsite: Campsite #8. Group Campsite Maximum Occupancy: 30
Hobbs Cabin
This is a primitive shelter with six wood bunks. Features include a wood-burning fireplace, picnic table, and fire ring. Tent and hammock camping around the Hobbs Cabin is prohibited. Entering from the Savage Gulf East parking lot; cabin is 8.5 miles via the Savage Day Loop and North Rim trails. There is a spring behind the cabin. Water may not be available during dry conditions.
There is no vehicle access to Hobbs Cabin. Maximum Occupancy: 6
If you need info on what to bring let me know.
I’d plan to have a 30-20*F bag, sleeping pad and tent. We can talk food in different events.
I’ll cap the event at 5 additional people and if someone wants to cohost we will increase it again so more people to go. Max allotted at a site is 6 people, group camping goes to 30.
I have limited gear I can rent out at as well. (Spare tents, pads and quilts. No packs - but check out sales right now - prices are good!)
