What we’re about
We are dancing every Tuesday! Look for our latest dance events!
Everyone is welcome! No special preparation is necessary. If you can walk, you can dance! Every class includes a review of the basics, along with a selection dances that are walked through and prompted. The goal is for everyone to learn something new, experience a variety of dances, and have a good time in the process!
English Country Dance was the popular form of social dance in England and the United States (the colonies) beginning around 1650 (John Playford's "English Dancing Master"), continuing through the 1700's and into the early 1800's (when the waltz became popular). Movies based on Jane Austen novels such as "Pride & Prejudice," "Sense & Sensibility," and "Emma" include scenes featuring English Country Dancing. Related to Contra dance, ECD moves at a slower pace with a variety of patterns and beautiful music that matches each dance. Today, the repertoire includes dances from the historical past as well as the present, and the style ranges from elegant to lively. All ages are welcome - no partner or previous experience is necessary. Dances are taught and walked-through. Please bring a separate pair of soft-soled shoes for dancing.
