Workplace Cultures

What sort of places have you worked, and what are the kinds of differences you've noticed between them? For example, what are the main differences between private, public and third sector workplace cultures? What about jobs done full time or part time? Permanent vs flexible? Onsite vs remote? Shop, office, factory based? What about jobs or workspaces where most people have many academic qualifications, compared with those (often inaccurately) categorised as unskilled or semi-skilled? What about jobs and workspaces focused on people, like hairdressing, compared with systems and things, like engineering and computer science? What about differences by size: self-employed; small business; large multi-nationals?

More importantly: how do the differences between workplaces in terms of their culture affect the sense of purpose, meaning and enjoyment of working? What makes a good job, and how does workplace culture contribute to this?
