The theme was a rural-related book. We chose The Shepherd's Life by James Rebanks. While the book offers "the closest possible look into a way of life that most of us only glimpse as we whisk through the countryside", the author himself is a remarkable character.

We will meet in the café at The Arc. Grab a drink and join us.

No need to bring an idea for the Christmas meet. This will partly be a social occasion so we will invite participants to talk about any book they have particularly enjoyed.

Future meetings will be on the third Saturday of the month if you want to pencil further dates in your diary. The exception will be December when will meet earlier for a Christmas event. We plan to meet for a pub lunch on Saturday 7 December at 1230 hrs at the St James' Tavern. Take a note of the time and date. Further details to follow.

We warmly welcome new members. At each meeting we go round giving everyone who wants to a chance to voice their initial impressions of the book. We then draw on this to discuss some themes or interesting elements in more detail, but there is no pressure on anyone to contribute more than they wish to. The aim is for a relaxed and friendly chat over our coffee. We then put forward ideas for the next month’s book and pick the favourite. There is usually a topic or category, but we will veer off for a suggestion that captures our interest, and we are always open to fresh ideas. We are a friendly bunch, please come and join us.
