What is the difference between architectural photography and just some snapshots? We only have to look at professional photographers’ images to see how each building has not only a story or personality but how each photographer chooses to express it.

Techniques the professionals use range from parallax correction, waiting for the right lighting and shadows, getting different perspectives, long exposures, composition, perspective, etc.
We are going to “scout” out some buildings downtown and discuss how we would shoot them. From the Louis Sullivan Macy’s to Chicago Theater and Marina City to Wrigley Building, let’s brainstorm about how we would create a professional-grade photo of each.

Let's meet at the **203 Cafe** and discuss over a cup of coffee and then head out to scout out buildings.

**PREPARATION**
I found a source of really great videos, Steve Brooke, and highly recommend seeing several of them BEFORE we meet.

Also the Chicago Museum has a robust collection of architectural photos online. Many are a bit older style but the same guidelines can be seen in them. There are also great collections of Hedrich-Blessing amongst others.

**EQUIPMENT AND EXPERIENCE**
Any experience level and equipment is permitted. Since this is a photowalk we should be nimble – I am bringing a tripod to try different angles but then moving on. I expect we will only have 20-30 min per building. If you have different lenses you want to try out to see what works best, I highly recommend bringing them.
