What we’re about

Hello there fellow escape room fan!

Do you live in Christchurch or are you here on holidays? Would you like to play escape rooms with a like-minded group of people? Or even if you haven’t played an escape room before and would like to try it out, then this group is for you!

This group was founded to find and unite people that want to have some fun and visit some Escape Rooms around Ōtautahi! The idea is to welcome all escape enthusiasts, from experienced to newbies.

Ideally, we would meet once a month or every 6 weeks or so (depending on interest), meet up prior to or after the room to have some food, drinks and escape together!

For those who are new:
Imagine stepping into a real-life puzzle adventure where you and your team are the heroes! Escape rooms are immersive challenges where you solve clues, crack codes, and race against the clock to escape themed rooms. It's like being in your own action movie, with thrilling challenges and adrenaline-pumping excitement at every turn.

Whether you're a seasoned escape room enthusiast or new to the scene, join us for an epic journey of fun and adventure!

Our mission is simple:

  • Boost local escape room businesses, because supporting local is always a win-win.
  • Connect like-minded enthusiasts to form teams for the ultimate escape room experiences.
  • Foster a tight-knit community where friendships are forged and memories are made, all while tackling thrilling challenges together.

Join us as we embark on a journey of excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable adventures!

We also wanted to invite everyone to our WhatsApp group chat, where we will be discussing and deciding the details for the next events. Everyone is invited, even if you don't have a MeetUp profile, so feel free to share the link with your friends. You can join using this link: https://shorturl.at/2nT6M

Our group is sponsored by Morty, an app dedicated to tracking, searching and booking escape rooms! Built by enthusiasts for all who love escape rooms! You can join the app right now with this link: https://link.morty.app/meetup

You can also join the Morty Discord to better get in on discussions about escape rooms and meetups: https://discord.gg/f4gze5pRWN

REFUND POLICY
We will try to accommodate refunds, but it's up to the escape room venue. Generally speaking more than a few days in advance we can handle a refund and within 24 hours it's not possible. To see the exact refund policy for an experience please check the venue's website!

RULES FOR A SUCCESSFUL ESCAPE ROOM
See Something, Say Something
Communication is absolutely vital for solving an escape room. Most rooms are designed so that everyone can be working on something or discovering something new all at the same time, so if you don’t communicate, you might not catch some missing pieces! Nothing is worse than someone who finds something and just keeps it in their pockets. That slows us down and makes others frustrated.

Don’t Take Over the Room
Leadership is so important, but there’s nothing worse than someone who totally takes over. Not only is this no fun for everyone playing, it’s also going to cause you to make mistakes and slow down your team. If you are the natural leader in your team, that’s great! Just make sure you remember that you need your WHOLE team to succeed.

Pass the Baton
If you’ve been staring at a puzzle for too long and can’t figure out the solution, enlist a fellow team member to help or take over on the puzzle. This helps make sure that puzzles don’t get forgotten, and that there are enough eyes on each unsolved puzzle. This can continue until a few people can’t figure it out – that’s usually a sign that you don’t have all of the information yet (or that you need a hint!).

Be a Contributor, not a Spectator
It’s too easy to be a spectator when interesting progress is being made on a puzzle, but people are more effective when they’re spread out and working on what needs to be done! If there’s only one puzzle open however, by all means let the whole team brainstorm. On the contrary point – if someone is intently focusing on accomplishing a single task (e.g. entering a combo into a school-style combination lock), resist the urge to chime in, or yell over others that are giving the answer to a puzzle.

Silence is Golden (Sometimes)
Sometimes, it’s important to stay quiet when listening for hints, clues, or when narration during the escape room occurs. When this is happening, keep your voice and whatever puzzles you may be trying to solve at a minimum.

*Please follow this rules in order for us to have fun at each escape room. Members who repeatedly break these rules will be restricted as to how many rooms they are allowed to attend and/or asked to leave the group
