Tabletop roleplaying games are a great way to build bonds with other people as you embark on an adventure together and make impactful story and character decisions. I feel the experience could be even more rewarding if we were to forge those bonds with people we know share our values.
I'd like to run a Dungeons and Dragons group for Christians that will let us form a Christian community around us where we all have something fun to do together, a way to express ourselves and get to know each other, and a way to learn about and discuss the Word.
My hope is that we can find friends and have a creative way to study, understand, and interpret God's Word together. My desire is to create a storied D&D campaign that has allegorical elements taken from the Bible, that we can discuss before, during, and/or after each session.
No requirement for I don't plan to restrict game content, but we will keep in mind the audience and the values we're trying to share with this game and I'd like to keep it relatively clean (a good rule of thumb is, if it's in Chronicles of Narnia or Lord of the Rings, it's fair game to use as a story element). I will have a Discord server for members and prospective members so we can discuss game content, Bible verses and stories relating to the game, discuss game edition details (should we play 3.5, 4, 5, updated 5, etc., do people need premade characters, etc.), schedule sessions, and to just have a place to asynchronously communicate and share!
I would like to restrict this group to adult Christians, although beginners to Dungeons and Dragons are welcome (even if you've never played before, I would be glad to create a character for you and guide you). We would likely be meeting at a game store such as Zulu's Board Game Cafe in Bothell or Uncle's Games in Redmond, though I could go as far south as Bellevue (e.g. Mox Boarding House) or as far north as Everett (we'll discuss what place would work best for people in our Discord).
About me as a group leader: I'm Dalton, a 28 year old software engineer living in Woodinville. I have experience with Dungeons and Dragons both as a DM (dungeon master) and player. I am not a preacher or priest or spiritual authority of any kind; I'm just someone that reads like any of us do, and wants to share the good Word with likeminded people in a novel way. And, I'm looking forward to meeting you!
