Telco Cloud Evolution Towards Cloud Native (Xuan Du, BT Group)
Telco cloud infrastructure is challenged on both a horizontal scale, as it extends towards the edge, and a vertical scale, given stringent KPIs from telco workloads. Thus, leveraging a blend of best-of-breed software and heterogeneous hardware such as multi-arch CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators, and deploying them at large-scale and highly distributed locations is vital to having the most energy-efficient and cost-effective network. What technologies from open-source and cloud-native communities can help address these challenges? NOMADIC (Network-oriented Multi-architecture Distributed Infrastructure as Code) is an answer by applying the declarative approach, DevOps practices, and self-service principles to demonstrate automated lifecycle management of telco cloud.
Xuan Du is currently a Senior Research Specialist in the Cloud Infrastructure Centre of Excellence at Research and Network Strategy of BT Group in the UK, where he focuses on cloud-native technologies and approaches for building and running telco cloud infrastructure to host telco workloads, including radio access networks. He has been involved in several UK and European research projects since 2015. He received his BEng (Distinction) and PhD degree in computing system engineering from the University of Essex in 2013 and 2017 respectively.
Failure as a Catalyst in the Tech World (Emmanuel Chukwuma, european-bespoke-solutions-ltd)
In the fast-paced and ever-evolving tech industry, failure is often seen as a setback. However, embracing failure can be a powerful catalyst for innovation, growth, and success. This presentation explores how failures—whether in projects, businesses, or personal endeavors—can drive significant breakthroughs. Through case studies, personal anecdotes, and industry stories, we will discuss the role of failure in the innovation cycle, the importance of building a failure-tolerant culture, and practical steps to embrace failure. Join us to learn how to turn failures into opportunities and foster a mindset that values learning and growth.

Geospatial analysis in Big Query (Katsiaryna Stankevich, Searce)
In this presentation, we delve into the advanced geospatial capabilities of Google BigQuery, showcasing its power to analyze and visualize spatial data efficiently. We'll start by exploring key features such as geographic functions and data types. Following the overview, we'll demonstrate a practical application by identifying the sunniest bar in London. This demo will illustrate how to utilize BigQuery's geospatial functions to process weather data and geographic coordinates, providing valuable insights for location-based decisions. Join us to see how BigQuery can transform geospatial data into actionable intelligence.
Meet Katsiaryna - Solution Architect in Searce. Kate earned her BSc in Computer Science at the Warsaw University of Technology. She then continued her journey at Imperial College Business School, where she received her MSc in Management with a Finance specialization. She has already worked in multinational consulting firms and start-ups, where she developed her skills in machine learning, data engineering, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Kate is always up for a challenge, and in her spare time, she publishes papers in IEEE on modeling and optimizing city traffic, as well as popularization articles such as “Big Data and AI in the Manufacturing Industries: Yes or No?”. Additionally, Kate holds multiple certifications such as Google Professional Cloud Developer and Professional Cloud Engineer, among others. She is continuously involved in planning various educational events, hackathons, and seminars. The Hackathon4Ukraine, First Steps to the Cloud, and the Data Science Realm Meetup are only a few examples. Furthermore, she is a presenter at many international and technological conferences, such as WebSummit 2023 in Portugal, ‘Emerging Challenges & Opportunities of Advanced Technologies and High Performance’ at ICIMMI-2020, and ‘Python for Data Science’ at the PoweR Bootcamp R and Python. Oh, and of course, she never forgets to have fun and in her “free” time does horseback riding, scuba diving and mountaineering.
