What we’re about
Welcome to our Community!
Our Cloud Native Night focuses on designing cloud platforms and developing distributed applications with the goal of enabling fault-tolerant, elastically scaling, and agile products. We are deeply engaged in the entire Cloud Native landscape, utilizing tools like Kubernetes and others, and prefer to build applications using Java and Go. Additionally, we explore other software topics, e.g. Security, Artificial Intelligence & Data Engineering to deepen our understanding of the broader challenges in the world of software development.
Hosted by QAware
QAware is an IT consulting and software development company for individual software. Our core competencies include cloud computing, big data and applied AI. We believe that real progress in software development comes from teamwork, continuous expert exchange and ongoing education.
Our goal is to unite people with a love for digital design, software architecture, software quality and coding. Therefore we want to build and maintain a community in which we discuss and shape the future of software together. We are happy to exchange ideas with other experts who share our love for code! You are more than welcome to join our community and engage with us.

See all- SEACON 2024 - Software Engineering + Architecture ConferenceQAware GmbH, München
On December 3, the SEACON conference, focusing on software engineering and software architecture, will take place. This year, we are pleased to welcome SEACON 2024 to our Munich Office with a fresh new concept. In the morning, we will stream the sessions directly to our office, followed by live presentations from three of our experts.
The conference will cover the latest topics in software engineering, with a special focus on AI techniques and their integration into software development, challenges in digitalization projects, and trends in software architecture. SEACON offers software architects, IT project managers, and software developers practical solutions for their day-to-day tasks.
Join us on December 3 for a unique community experience! We’re excited to welcome you to our Munich office to spend the day together—sharing insights, networking, and exploring new ideas. Let’s learn from each other, grow as a community, and make this SEACON a truly memorable experience. We look forward to seeing you!
For those unable to join onsite, there’s also an option to attend remotely.
Entry is free. Please note that you must register here. Registrations via meetup.com are not valid.

*** ABSTRACTS ***
Distributed SQL with CockroachDB,
by Emil Andreas Siemes (Senior Staff Sales Engineer at Cockroachlabs)In this talk we will look into the history and benefits of distributed SQL with a focus on OLTP. Main focus will be CockroachDB but we will also touch other solutions and compare them. Beside the technical architecture we will discuss typical use cases.

Fully-managed Cloud-native Databases: The path to indefinite scale,
by Dirk Kröhan (Software Architect at QAware)When it comes to the question: "Where do we actually store our application data?", we are spoilt for choice, especially when it comes to the major cloud providers.
The simple and often completely valid answer is still the classic relational database! It is very suitable for many areas of application, as the technology is tried and tested and can cover a very broad spectrum. It is therefore not surprising that all major cloud providers offer this as a "managed service".
For some years now, however, there have also been so-called cloud-native databases that have been specially developed for the requirements of the cloud. The big promise: "Infinite scalability"
In a large customer project, we have been using such a database productively for over 4 years with Azure CosmosDB. The presentation will deal with the following questions, among others- What does "upscalability" mean in practice ?
- What do you have to pay attention to when designing?
- What are the actual limits?
- What other special features do I get?
- When do I need a cloud-native database?
But that's not all! We also look beyond Azure to the other two major cloud providers: AWS and Google Cloud. With DynamoDB and Datastore/Firestore, they have similar products on offer.
