Friends, it has been an amazing adventure hosting game night for us all. I've met so many wonderful people, and played many wonderful games with everyone. Sadly all good things must come to an end.
This will be the final game night that I host in my home, and most likely the final event I host on Meetup. Costs of running a meetup group and the limited space I have to host others were among the major deciding factors.
If anyone would like to take over as owner of Games, Puzzles, and Hangs (21+), please let me know. Otherwise I plan to disband the group sometime around the end of the year. For this final game night, I'm semi-removing the attendee limit. Come say hello and goodbye to new and old friends with us!
Welcome! Please join us weekly on Friday evenings for community and connection over card games, board games, and conversation. I have a host of games on site, but I encourage you to bring a favorite and/or share a new game with the group. If you do bring a game, be ready to teach the game to others.
Once you RSVP, you'll receive a message with the exact meetup location (I usually send this out on Thursday or Friday morning). It's an apartment near C-470 and Broadway. Parking on the street is strongly suggested and encouraged as spaces in the complex are scarce in the evenings.
Some of the games I own: Viticulture, Azul, Codenames, Spyfall, Galaxy Trucker, Gizmos and many, many more. While we will likely start with the familiars or group games, we are open to the whims and fancies of the group and will decide what to play in the moment based on interests and needs.
All suggestions are welcome, including games you bring from home.
There are often 2 to 3 games happening at once: sometimes a larger game with 6-8 people, more often a game with 4-5 players, and sometimes pairs breaking off to play some two player games.
Though the event is from 6p - 11p, you may come and go at your leisure. If a game needs more time after the official end time, then so be it! No previous experience or knowledge are needed - just your presence and a willingness to learn and have fun (and maybe a small competitive spirit!). We are happy to teach anyone the game at hand. Also, feel free to bring your older children who might like playing as well.
This is not required, but please bring a snack for yourself or to share. I will do my best to have some options available, though it will also help if others add to the stash. So bring a favorite food or drink* to share! I am always in need of sodas, bubbly waters, and anything on the healthier side (though sweets are absolutely welcome).
Looking forward to a meaningful and fun game night with you! Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to message me.
NOTE: Anyone with three “no-shows” (RSVPing “yes” and then not coming to the event without changing your RSVP to “no”) will be removed from the group. This is to ensure that spots are allotted to people who actually will attend. Life happens sometimes! But if your plans do change, please mark yourself as “Not Going” in the Meetup site/app for the event you signed up for.
Some minor house rules:
- *No alcohol, please.
- Please keep politics out of this space. There are many other places to discuss politics and current events. This is a place for fun and connection and forgetting about the weight of the world for a few hours.
- No outside pets, please. (Though photos are always welcome)
- There are no hard rules on game complexity or duration. However, know that not everyone enjoys long and intensive games. It might be best to comment a game ahead of the Friday you plan to attend to gauge interest. (I personally love long and complex games!)
***Should you or anyone in your family be experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay home. This is a weekly event, and we will look forward to seeing you back when any potential virus has cleared. We appreciated the consideration!***
