What we’re about
Code for Philly is a community of civic technologists. We use tech, data, and design as a means of civic engagement. We're what happens when civic-minded developers, designers, coders, organizers, and communicators come together to build a better Philadelphia for everyone. We apply our skills as technologists to problem solve alongside members of our communities and local government.
We meet frequently to work on a variety of projects, working towards a better, more connected and open city.
We welcome and encourage everyone of all skill levels to participate as we are firm believers in getting your hands dirty and learning by doing.
Why should you join?
You will get to work first hand on exciting projects that are making a huge difference for the city of Philadelphia. You’ll get to collaborate and learn with some of Philly’s leading technologists too!
You can join an existing project, create a new one, or even bring in something you're already working on and collaborate with other Code for Philly members! All Code for Philly projects are not-for-profit, open source, and public/civic minded.
We also have open Organizing Team leadership roles.
Where can you learn more?
Our events and RSVPs are primarily hosted here, on MeetUp.
We’re part of Code for America, a non-partisan, non-political 501(c)3 organization founded in 2009 to bring web-industry professionals to work with city governments in the United States in order to promote openness, participation, and efficiency in municipal governments.

It's time for December Hack Night!
If you want to attend Hack Night virtually, many projects have hybrid setups. Please join our slack and check with project leads to get the specific zoom link for each project.
Indy Hall’s new space includes lots of space to spread out, lots of high quality & natural airflow, and (weather permitting) an outdoor patio that has a beautiful view of the city.
We have limited space. Please be respectful: If you register, and decide not to attend, please cancel your RSVP to make room for someone else from the waitlist.
There will be food! Pizza and a vegan option as well.
Agenda:
6:00pm - Doors Open
6:00-6:15pm - Schmoozing, grab food
6:15-6:30pm - Announcements, project lead/Code for Philly introductions
6:30-8:30pm - Hack! (Work on projects)
Recommended but not required: Bring your laptop, so you can start working on a project if your skills align with one of the project team's needs.
If you're not currently part of a project and aren't able to find one that aligns with your skills/interests, you're still welcome to hang out and socialize amongst yourselves.
How to join us:
- To access the building, there will be a sign on the door with instructions to text a number that will give you the door code.
- Walk to the back of the hall and ride the elevator to the 3rd floor. Turn left out of the elevator lobby and you'll find us. Or feel free to take the stairs if that's your thing.
Note that this door code only works until 8pm. You will need to contact someone inside to let you in after that time!
See you there!
