Details

Garrett Lang's critique of current counter-terrorism strategies suggests that efforts relying on installing compliant governments, isolating and killing terrorists, and restricting immigration from certain countries are ineffective as they inadvertently fuel terrorist recruitment. Instead, Lang proposes a new approach centered on justice, compassion, and understanding to counteract terrorist messaging. This approach would focus on promoting moral high ground through fair policies, educating vulnerable populations on the truth behind terrorist propaganda, and offering rehabilitation and support to surrendered terrorists. Additionally, Lang advocates for treating peaceful members of affected communities with respect to foster unity and counteract “us vs. them” mentalities, ultimately aiming to reduce terrorist support and recruitment by addressing root causes and engaging with communities constructively.
