We play a foam-fighting game called Dagorhir (or Dag), very similar to Belegarth or Amtgard.
Dagorhir is a nation-wide combat sport with thousands of members. Our chapter of Dagorhir is called Pelennor Fields. We gather every Sunday and fight each other with padded weapons. We get to play with medieval style weapons in a safe and semi-realistic way. We pad the weapons so you don't need to pad yourself. We hit full force, because it shouldn't hurt others. There are no head shots allowed (though it happens). Light grappling, shield bashing, and shield kicking are allowed if done safely. Role play is not required (though many enjoy it). There is no magic. The fighting is honor-based, like airsoft or paintball. If you get hit, you lose the use of that part of your body.
Dagorhir has been mine and many others' main source of social interaction. I have met so many interesting and cool people. It is a great place to make true friends. If you are into nerdy things or just want to hit someone with sticks we have people you would like to meet.
If any of this sounds like something you might like, we urge you to come out. It is a free game with loaner gear available. You just need to bring some water and some comfortable clothing to fight in.
