DESCRIPTION:
This 6ish-mile, easy-effort hike at Malibu Creek State Park will take you to several iconic locations from the park's history in film and television. The hike includes the Rock Pools swimming hole and scenic views of Century Lake, named after 20th Century Fox Studios, which used the park as a shooting ranch for many years. You'll also encounter the MASH site, which has vehicles, structures, and displays about the filming of the television show MASH. Along the trail, you'll see remnants of the park's past, including the site of "Ape Village" from the original Planet of the Apes.
BRING: 12 Dollars for parking, good shoes, dress in layers Poles might be useful, for creek crossing. Snack a Good HAT and sunscreen, and at least 1 liter of liquids.

- Meet: Malibu Creek State Park Trailhead SMHC Lot 8:00 am, departure at 8:15 am sharp (Nov 23).
- Distance: Approximately 6.5 miles.
- Elevation gain: Approximately 300 feet.
- Time: Approximately 4 hours hiking including a snack break.
- Easy: You need to be in general good physical condition.
- Dogs: Dogs are not allowed on park dirt roads or hiking trails.
- Restrooms: At the Parking area as well as some porta potties on the trail.
- PARKING FEE: 12 Dollars for parking
IMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. There are no expected stream crossings, exposures, bugs or other warnings. As always, people may slip and fall, encounter poison oak, snakes, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather before or at the start of the hike. Check the weather report and plan accordingly.
ESSENTIAL GEAR: Hiking boots and poles. Clothing layers are recommended. Snacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets. Hat and sunscreen

1. Beginner: 1-3 miles, less than 500 feet elevation gain.
2. Beginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles, less than 700 feet elevation gain.
3. Intermediate: 5-10 miles, 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.
4. Intermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.
5. Advanced: 10-17 miles, 3000 feet or more elevation gain.

NAVIGATION: We highly recommend the AllTrails app be installed on your cell phones and/or you print a copy of the trail map so you can personally navigate the trail if you need to.
