McDougal Rim Alternate Route Up

Let's mix this one up a bit. There has been a lot of hikes offered at this time so if you've been too busy lately I'll likely do it again over the winter.
Around 8kms and 475m and up to 4 hours depending on the group.
We'll start off as usual but veer off up the hill and take the rim route to the first viewpoint. It's a bit of a grunt but it's something different and we'll take the main trail back down.
It's winter up there but the snow isn't deep. There are potential muddy and icy sections so spikes could be useful as well as poles. A short stop for snacks (and tea?) at the second viewpoint. Some of the best views around if that's your thing!!
