βοΈ Wet-Lab Protein Purification Workshop | Insulin Production π
Details
Welcome to the Protein Purification Workshop! It will be held at Counter Culture Labs (4799 Shattuck Avenue, Oakland, CA 94609)
In this workshop you will learn the principles of protein purification using Chromatography. The methods will involve separating of proteins by their sizes, electrical charges, and bonding to a resin. These skills have many practical applications.
Did you know that we biomanufacture insulin in yeast? To extract the this life saving protein from our microbe bioreactors, we use chromatography.
In the first segment of the workshop we will discuss the mechanism of protein purification and in the second half we will show how to run samples through separation columns using a FPLC (fast protein liquid chromatograph). In this class we will work with a visible protein, Green Fluorescent Protein, so you can see the sample running through the column!
The workshop fee is $120. Venmo @ccl-plantbio. Message the organizer if you need an alternate payment method. This covers instruction and the materials and equipment used in the class.
Required lab attire for safety: Long pants and closed-toed shoes.
Unable to attend? Interested in other classes like plant genetic engineering, bacterial culture, microscopy? Join our mailing list to hear about upcoming workshops! https://www.tinyurl.com/wet-lab-bio-mailchimp
