An emissary has arrived at the SeaGhost, wearing the livery of a minor lord of the Hool Marsh Protectorate. He proclaims he is Sibilus, and bears a request from His Lordship Baronet Simone Acton.
“His Lorship has had only one son live to adulthood; six have died before reaching age 12. That one child, Ser Olmy Acton, has been plagued with nightmares and visions since he became of age. The Baronet had tried various healers and priests, but to no avail. It was determined that he suffered from a disease of the mind, not the body. Experts were consulted, and they all said the same thing: The Knights of Pandem.
“The Knights are a charitable organization, founded centuries ago to help those afflicted with diseases of the mind. Their headquarters, a hospital for treating such infirmities, is located in The Tors, on a broad mesa about thirty miles south of the Town of Lasker. The Knights have always said treatment is best away from the influence of others.
“Ser Olmy was sent there two months ago, along with a generous donation and a directive that the Baronet received weekly updates. A month ago those updates stopped. Three weeks ago the Baronet sent his seneschal to investigate the situation; he has not returned either. The Baronet made further inquiry, and the name ‘Sea Ghost’ kept coming up as group who could solve problems discretely.
“The Baronet requests you set sail for Port Westkeep; it should take you no more than four days, and that should be as far as your vessel can go; His Lordship has arranged for a company to guard your vessel there. A trade boat is waiting for you in Port Westkeep that will take you to the junction of the Seldair, from which you can venture to Lasker and then into The Tors to Pandem Hospital.
“Find his son and return him. The Baronet has pledged 5,000 gp and titles for this mission. Will you accept?”
