What we’re about
We're a group of fun-loving, friendly people who run regular dance events in Hobart, Tasmania. Most events have live music from amazing musicians from near and far. All dances are taught, and you don't need to bring a partner. Styles vary under the broad banner of "folk dancing", including contra dancing (from the US), Scottish dancing, Irish dancing, Regency dancing and good old Aussie bush dancing, to name a few. It's all about having fun, so it doesn't matter if you don't get the moves right. Just come along and give it a try! What you'll find is a great hobby that gets you fit as well as giving you a rip-roaring fun time, and it's all done with friendly, welcoming people who can't wait to meet you.
Regular events include Contra or Balfolk dances on the first and third Mondays of every month (except January and Easter), a large dance on the last Saturday of each month between March and November (except Easter) which has a varying theme (costumes optional), and if that's not enough, there's Danceoholics on the second Friday of every month, where those of us who want more just do whatever dances we feel like.

Contra dancing is moderately aerobic and highly addictive. It’s a lively, social, swingy dance style from the USA. Done to simple walking steps, it features flowing movements, swings and twirls, and a chance to dance with everyone in the room.
