Stevens Trail Hike to See Ladybugs
Details
Please change your RSVP to "not going" if you change your mind about coming.
We are a faster moving group than most and often spread out during the hike, so I prefer smaller groups so that I can keep track of how many are behind me. I will stop periodically to regroup if I haven't seen the people behind me for a while, especially at intersections and any place people might get lost. People who get ahead of me should do the same.
Go here for the Ten Essentials. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials) Not everyone brings all ten for every hike, but everyone should at least bring extra water, extra food, extra clothing, and a head lamp or flashlight on every hike.
Facilities on the hike: outhouse at the trailhead.
GPS track from a previous hike shows 7.55 miles with 1574 feet elevation gain. Bring a flashlight if you want to look in the abandoned mine tunnel. Zillions of ladybugs descend from higher altitudes to a spot near the river to huddle together for the winter.
Directions to trailhead: follow I-80 East towards the town of Colfax and exit at North Canyon Way. Travel along North Canyon Way for about a mile. Go past the Colfax cemetery to the Stevens Trailhead. Parking will be on your left. Here's Google Maps directions to the trailhead, including a stop on Antelope Road in Citrus Heights to pick up a couple of friends. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Big+5+Sporting+Goods,+1301+W+Covell+Blvd,+Davis,+CA+95616,+USA/Stevens+Trail,+Colfax,+CA+95713/@39.0967225,-120.9488753,18z/am=t/data=!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x808529caa1b74b5f:0xa4e01a36cca0dbd4!2m2!1d-121.764215!2d38.561293!1m5!1m1!1s0x809b0b1ea8f71c35:0x63e836db9fdbab6f!2m2!1d-120.9428399!2d39.1047375
