Friends in Dusseldorf

Let's explore together the charming and historical Dutch city of Venlo! Shops are open on Sunday, so there will be plenty of options to bring home some souvenirs.

We'll meet at 12.30 in front of the Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (outside near "Kamps" bakery) and will go by regional train directly to Venlo in the Netherlands. The train trip takes around 1h and we should have at least 4 hours in the town for walking, shopping and and a coffee break together. We'll be proposing in the group chat meeting points, so you can decide to stay with the group or explore the city at your own pace.

Please don't forget to bring along your EU-ID or passport as we'll be crossing the German borders and there should be regular controls.

Costs:
Deutschland Ticket is valid for the whole journey until Venlo train station. If you don't have one, please buy your return train ticket ahead of time. Return ticket costs approx. €35.

We are a group of climbing and bouldering enthusiasts who love exploring new gyms and sharing adventures! So far, we've visited Superblock (Düsseldorf), Radium (Maastricht), and Monkeyspot (Düsseldorf). We've also been to Elements (Cologne), Prisma (Wuppertal), Neoliet (Essen), and now it's time for Boulderwelt Dortmund on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Next up, we'll also be visiting Bergstation (Hilden)!

Bouldering at Boulderwelt

• 12:00 - 4:00 PM: Boulderwelt Dortmund is one of the largest and most modern bouldering gyms in Europe, covering 3250 m². It features a wide variety of routes for all skill levels, a spacious training area with specialized equipment like the Kilterboard, and a welcoming atmosphere perfect for socializing after a challenging climb. Whether you're a newcomer or an experienced climber, there's something for everyone.

Christmas Market Visit

• From 5:00 PM: After bouldering, we'll visit the Dortmund Christmas Market, home to the largest Christmas tree in the world! After conquering the bouldering walls, we might just be ready to climb the biggest Christmas tree (at least in spirit)! Enjoy the festive atmosphere with mulled wine, roasted almonds, sausages, and many other treats, including vegetarian and vegan options. This is the perfect way to relax and have fun together after an exciting afternoon of climbing.

#### How to Get There

• Public Transport: Boulderwelt Dortmund is well-connected, located in Indupark, Brennaborstraße 10, 44149 Dortmund. You can take the S-Bahn (Dortmund-Oespel) or Bus 440.
• Car: Free parking is available. Please try to arrange carpools—use the event comments for coordination!

#### What to Bring

• Gear: Comfortable sportswear, climbing shoes (available for rent), chalk bag.
• Personal Items: Water bottle, some cash for snacks and the Christmas market, and a good mood! 🌞

#### What to Expect

Climbing & Bouldering at Bergstation

• 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Bergstation Hilden is a large climbing and bouldering center that challenges you with a total of 3450 m² of climbing space! The hall offers 17-meter high climbing walls indoors and 20-meter high outdoor climbing walls, along with an 800 m² bouldering area.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber, Bergstation has something for everyone. Come by and try out the different routes!

• Facilities: In addition to the climbing and bouldering areas, Bergstation also features a training room with a Moonboard, Campusboard, and more for ambitious climbers. The bistro offers delicious food and drinks, perfect for a post-climb refreshment.

• Climbing (Day Pass for Adults): €17.00
• Bouldering (Day Pass for Adults): €13.00

Relax & Plan

• 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: After climbing and bouldering, we will relax in the bistro at Bergstation. Enjoy a cappuccino, a snack, or play a round of billiards or foosball as we take a break before the next activity. We can also start discussing which Christmas market to visit afterward—feel free to leave your suggestions in the event comments!

Christmas Market Visit

• From 5:00 PM: After climbing, we will continue to one of the nearby Christmas markets. Whether in the local area or in Düsseldorf, we will decide together which market to visit. Feel free to suggest your preferred market in the event comments! Enjoy the festive atmosphere with mulled wine, bratwurst, roasted chestnuts, and crepes. After all the climbing, a hearty meal is a must before we indulge in the mulled wine and other festive drinks!

#### Arrival

• Public Transportation: Bergstation is well connected and located directly at Hilden S-Bahn station. From the station, it's just 400 meters to the venue, which can be seen from the platform.
• By Car: Please use public transportation if possible or form carpools, as parking at Bahnhofsallee is limited.
• Transportation: We will coordinate everything in the Meetup event comments to organize carpools or for those planning to take the train.

#### What to Bring

• Climbing/Bouldering Gear: Comfortable sportswear, climbing shoes (can also be rented on-site), chalk bag, and a harness if needed.
• Personal Items: Water bottle, some cash for snacks and the Christmas market, and a positive attitude! 🌞
• Christmas Spirit: After bouldering and climbing, we want to get into the festive spirit—so bring your love for mulled wine and gingerbread! 🎄🍷
