From Carbon Aware Computing To Grid Aware Computing
Details
Something big is happening. The Green Web Foundation has launched the Grid Aware Computing project.
As we develop a better understanding of Green Software, the way we think about how our stack of tech interacts with the stack of energy infrastructure one layer down becomes more important.
In this talk Chris Adams, director of tech and policy at the Green Web Foundation will introduce the open source Grid Aware Computing project, that kicked off in November and will run through out 2025.
We’ll introduce the considerations beyond carbon when working with software, how to take your first steps in the world of grid aware, and play with the code, and wrap with space for QnA.
The special thing about this project is that web pages change their functionality depending on the grid carbon intensity. In contrast to shifting the load at times when there is a lot of renewable energy in the grid (time-shifting).
This time the event is in English.
The meetup will take place in presence again. If external participants would like to attend remotely, please select the appropriate RSVP so that the catering can be adapted.
