Join us for another edition of our Before I Die series! For this gathering, a representative from EARTH funeral services, will give a presentation on “soil transformation” — an environmentally friendly alternative to burial and cremation, which is sometimes referred to as “human composting.” There will be ample time for questions.

Over a 45-day process, a body is gently transformed into a cubic-yard of nutrient-rich soil. Families choose how much soil they would like returned—to scatter or use for planting—and the remainder is donated to local conservation projects for land restoration initiatives.

Participants in the presentation will be given a voucher for a discount if they choose to use this service. You will not be contacted unless you wish to be, and there is no pressure to use their service.

EARTH is a team of funeral professionals, scientists and software engineers who are committed to modernizing funeral care. Combining the latest in soil science with cutting-edge software, they offer an end-of-life option for people who want to protect the planet for future generations.

Before I Die: What is a “compost burial”? (a.k.a. soil transformation)

The Young Meditators Group is a gathering of young people in their 20s and 30s interested in exploring the path of meditation in a supportive and engaging setting. We gather to foster camaraderie, meditate, learn together, and support each other on and off the cushion so we may engage with our world with confidence and authenticity.

The gathering includes 30 minutes of meditation, an activity, discussion, and socializing. The group activity rotates between book readings, yoga, art making, and other forms of expression.

All are welcome! No prior meditation experience is necessary. We provide oral group meditation instructions at the beginning of every session. Feel free to bring a friend :)

This is an opportunity to connect with a community of fellow meditators and share in our experience as young people trying to live more sanely while still taking in all our city has to offer.

NOTE: OUR GATHERINGS HAVE 10+ ATTENDEES ON A WEEKLY BASIS. MOST DO NOT RSVP VIA MEETUP.

Young Meditators Bi-Monthly Gathering

Join us as we practice and study the teachings of the world-renowned American Buddhist nun [Pema Chödrön](https://pemachodronfoundation.org/) together! We meet every Wednesday evening for a lively online discussion of the dharma using [The Essential Pema](https://pemachodronfoundation.org/product/the-essential-pema/) as our guide.

Sessions will open with a short period of meditation with brief guided instruction. Each meeting will highlight a different Buddhist teaching using selections from Pema Chödrön’s books that will be screen-shared and read aloud. There is no need to purchase a book or read ahead—unless you would like to do this. The reading will be followed by an opportunity to contemplate and reflect on how these teachings might apply to our everyday lives.

The Essential Pema Chödrön Study Group

**This is a great opportunity to connect with other like-minded folks while deepening your understanding of meditation.**

This free introduction class to mindfulness meditation is ideal for beginners as well as anyone looking to refresh their understanding of meditation practice.

The evening will be led by a senior Shambhala Meditation Instructor who will present the view and technique of mindfulness-awareness meditation, a helpful coping mechanism in these times of anxiety and uncertainty. Through synchronizing mind and body in meditation, we can create the foundation for a sane and balanced life.

The Heart of Recovery is a meditation and sharing support group that combines mindfulness meditation, the Shambhala and Buddhist teachings, and the Twelve Steps of Recovery to integrate the basic sanity of the Dharma and the basic goodness of meditation with our commitment to abstinence. We warmly welcome all who wish to share in these common interests.

**Gathering Format:**
– Welcome each other
– Guided mindfulness meditation
– Dharma reading/teachings
– Group sharing & discussion
– Close with a Loving-Kindness meditation practice.

You do not need to have experience with meditation, Buddhism, or be affiliated with a 12-step program. We welcome Buddhist practitioners from all traditions and/or Twelve Step practitioners from all programs.

The group meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month in person at the Shambhala Center in Burbank. All are welcome.
