What’s a natural wine bar doing in a mural-covered alley in the heart of RiNo, where every other storefront houses a brewery taproom or cocktail lounge? Killing it, that’s what. Noble Riot is the first of its kind in a town that has been excruciatingly slow to acquire a taste for wine as a whole, never mind the sometimes nostril-shocking, palate-scrambling stuff poured here. But owners Nicole and Scott Mattson—who also run fabulous nightclub Nocturne just around the corner—and their partners are not only banking on the fact that times are finally changing around here but doing their part to speed up the process. Perhaps a sign posted out in front will draw you, reading “Down to Funk.” Perhaps the manifesto at the back of the hand-illustrated menu, celebrating wines that had “the fewest amount of interventions between the grape and the gulp,” will convince you. Perhaps a glimpse through the window of a class or blind tasting underway will entice you.
