What we’re about

We are a small community of responsible people who enjoy food, wine, and travel (whether here in the Pacific Northwest or overseas), in our 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s... Both individuals and couples are welcome. We get together at restaurants or bakeries in the Seattle/Eastside area every so often for good food and conversation. The venues will range from simple to sophisticated, both American and other ethnicities. I look for healthy ingredients, tasty food, and reasonable prices (for the area). Being able to share a few dishes with another group member during a meal will enable both to taste more dishes, have a more balanced and interesting meal, and lower costs. Members are also very welcome to host meetings at eateries of their choice. This group is set as a private group in Meetup, so our meeting information is visible only to group members. Please through to the end for important information.

Because restaurant meetings usually need reservations, it is very important that those who join this group have a high level of responsibility in signing up for and showing up at events. Meetup is marred by people who make casual RSVPs, and then either don't show up or cancel the day before, the day of, or just before the event. This is highly inconsiderate of everyone else--the time and energy that Meetup organizers put into creating meetups, other group members who wanted to take that spot in the reservation, and the restaurant that is expecting income from the number of seats filled. We need members who can sign up for a meeting/meetup, put it on their calendar, and be there.

Additionally, the Group Organizer (that's me, a Meetup Organizer since 2009) organizes one to three vacations a year to culturally rich countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and look for travel companions. This is all independent travel (not commercial tours), just people traveling together. While the major focus is on sightseeing, there is a secondary focus on charming dining experiences and flavorful food & wine. These trips are very suitable for those who enjoy art and architecture, nature and gardens, food and wine. They are comfortable trips for middle aged and active senior people, at moderate cost. Forthcoming trips are to Laos, Cambodia (Angkor Wat), and Thailand this December; Vienna and Salzburg in June of 2025; and Egypt in October of 2025. If you are interested, please contact me via Meetup (click on the photo to send me a message).

Some atmospheric dining experiences from past trips (which can be repeated), include sipping a glass of wine on a rooftop terrace bar in Morocco as the sun sets and the lights glimmer on the hillsides around; having dinner amid the flowering trees and a flowing fountain in the courtyard of a former palace & fortress in northern India; a long, multi-course lunch at a historic café in Paris with hand painted murals from floor to ceiling.

Assuming that weekend meetings are more convenient for most members, many of our restaurant meetings will be on Sunday evenings, or on Saturday evenings if the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Weekday evenings are also a possibility, and I would like to hear from members about this.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or discuss something. Please note that joining the group has to be approved, and if I am traveling, there may be a small delay. Join us for flavorful food, interesting wine, conviviality of like-minded friends, and future travel possibilities. Bon appétit!
