Walk Historic Downtown SRQ: Palm Ave., 1st St., Main St & Gulfstream Ave

This walk will cover some of the early days of Sarasota history from the coming of the Scots in 1885 to buildings constructed during the 1920's boom times. Some of the key stops we'll make to discuss the early history will include The Sarasota Woman's Club, The Frances Carlton apartments, The Sarasota Times newspaper building, Park 7 Movie House (aka Florida Studio Theater), The Edwards Theater (now the Sarasota Opera House), 5 Points Park where it all began and more.

PARKING: You may find two-hour free parking at the end of Main St. on Gulfstream Ave. I believe you can park for free in the Palm Ave Garage (see photo) as long as you park on the 3rd floor or above. Check for signs if you choose to park there as I got a ticket for parking on the second floor before 10 am.

If you're new to the area I'd suggest doing a drive by before the event so you know where you're going.
